We are going back to the basics today and doing a simple floral watercolor in our art journal. I’m showing you from start to finish how to paint your flowers and add all of your details, including some fun gold paint pen splatters. Take a deep breath, set an intention, and let’s create!
Start by taping off the edges of your page with painter’s tape. Mist your watercolors with water and your paper to get them ready to go.
Next, add color to your page – I’m using lots of greens and blues to create flower centers and some flower petals. I’ll also add some green to the background. Just add colors and let the water blend them. It’s imperfect and that’s the fun of it! Dry with a heat tool.
Next, I’m using an Ultrafine Sharpie to sketch my detail lines. I’m doodling circles in my flower centers, outlining the petals, drawing leaves, and adding detail lines to each petal as well. Then, I’ll use a thicker sharper and add some more outlining and details too.
I’m going to add some more watercolor to my background to define it more from the leaves. I’m using a very dark blue and just painting in that space. Dry with a heat tool.
I’m going to grab my Stabilo Aquarellable Black pencil and add some shading around my flower centers.
I’m going to finish it off with some paint splatters. Instead of getting paint out, I’m actually going to use a Gold Leafing Paint Pen and just tap it against another brush right over my page to create some gold splatters. Remove your painter’s tape and enjoy!
