Let’s explore the art of bringing flowers to life on paper! Whether you’re a budding artist or simply looking to brush up on your skills, this step-by-step guide will teach you how to create this simple page in your art journal. This tutorial has lots of different techniques that you can start incorporating into your artwork today!
Start by prepping your art journal page by taping off the edges of your page with Painter’s Tape and misting your watercolor palette with water.
Then, add teal watercolor paint to your page and drop black watercolor paint in the middle. Dry with a heat tool. I’ll also paint an orange watercolor flower with drops of black and red, and a pink watercolor flower with drops of purple. Paint your stems and leaves with green watercolor paint. Dry with a heat tool.
Next, I’ll wet my background with a paintbrush and add drops of color to it. I’m adding blues and pinks to the top part and greens and blues to the bottom part. Dry with a heat tool.
I’ll take my Molotow Blackliner pens to doodle and sketch out my flowers petals. I’ll also add detail lines to the stems and leaves.
I’ll use a small stencil brush and add black, Quin Gold, and DecoArt Extreme Sheen 24K Gold to my flower centers to give more texture and color. On my pink flower, I’ll add a little bit of white paint to the center.
Next, I’ll use a fan brush with some green watercolor paint on my palette and lightly brush up from the bottom of my page to create blades of grass. I’ll also tap it on another brush above my page to create a little splatter effect on my page. Dry with a heat tool.
Finally, I’ll use a larger stencil brush and an ink pad to add color around the edges of my entire page. Remove the painter’s tape and enjoy!
