Radiant Bloom Watercolor Art Tutorial

Get ready to add a burst of color to your art journal! This week, we’ll create a vibrant watercolor background in greens, blues, and oranges, topped with a bold, hand-drawn flower. With simple tools like a Sharpie, dotting tools, and a bit of white and black acrylic paint, you’ll add intricate details that make your page pop.

Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape and misting your watercolor palette with water.

Use your watercolors to add splotches of colors to cover your entire page – I’m using lots of greens, blues, and oranges. Dry with a heat tool.

Use a thick permanent marker (like a Sharpie or Posca Pen) to sketch on a large flower with leaves. Then, add dark green watercolor paint to the negative space in your background. Dry with a heat tool.

Use a thin Sharpie pen to add detail lines to your flower petals and leaves. Grab some Dotting Tools and Titanium White acrylic paint to add dots all along the flower petals. I’ll also use a liner brush with white paint to add additional detail lines to the flower petals. I’ll do the same with Carbon Black paint too.

Dry with a heat tool. Remove the painter’s tape and enjoy!
