We are home and my mom and I had a great time! It was time off from my busy schedule and a new part of the United States for my mom. We just had a wonderful time together and I met my match on the sight seeing. She may be shorter than me but I had to double time it to keep up. So I wish I had time to make slide shows of the various things we took in but due to time constraints I have to condense things and make you sit through a long slide show. In a nutshell here was our itinerary…
Day 1 – Arrive about 2 pm at the Hyatt Grand Hotel right in Union Square. We had the most beautiful view of downtown San Francisco. We went for a late lunch/early dinner at The Daily Grill. Then took in some shopping and I even found an Ed Hardy store. I wore my Ed Hardy boots around the city and they felt right at home. Oh the shopping was amazing. We were determined to find scarves as everyone wears them. Then on to Lefty O'Douls for a few (too many) beers and heated political conversation. It is fun taking my Republican Mom to Democrat-land. She held her own.
Day 2 – Rough Start to Day 2 as those beers reminded me that I am old. We got on a tour bus to the Muir Woods to gaze at the amazing Redwoods. Then on to Sausalito for lunch and shopping. Lots of opportunities to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge. Then we went to Fisherman's Wharf and caught the Ferry to Alcatraz. By now our legs were killing us so we spent a couple of hours here. We caught a rick-shaw bike guy to catch the Cable Car. At this point I felt like we were in the movie "Planes, Trains, & Automobiles" but it was "Bus, Boat, Rick Shaw & Cable Car". We laughed a ton having this pour guy peddle our combined weights. We had dinner at Max's At the Square. By now I feel human and want to forget beer exists. By 6 pm we were in the hotel and ready for bed. We were so tired.
Day 3 – Breakfast at Sears (yummy!). Then caught a Hop on/off Bus to see the entire city. This was another great chance to photograph the awesome architecture, Golden Gate bridge, the hilly streets, and downtown San Francisco. We enjoyed taking in the rich history of this beautiful City. Then we stopped at Fisherman's Wharf for lunch. My mom felt extra special when I voluntarily ate at a seafood place. YUK! I hate seafood and the smell drives me nuts so the photos of me wrapped in the scarf is at the Seafood Restaurant. On to more shopping and then we caught the Cable Car to Lombard Street (the most crooked street). Back on the cable car where I got to ride on the outside rails. That was exhilerating. Back to the hotel for 2 seconds of rest and we walked to Chinatown to take in yet more shopping and culture. We sat at a great tea house and sampled a variety of teas. So yummy! Dinner was awesome at Foley's. Have I mentioned how awesome and abundant the food is in this city? And for someone who has a deep appreciation for food this is a dream city! Then downstairs to a dueling piano bar. That was nice. I loved the music. We then went to the top of the Westin for a live band a great view. That was not our scene and we were done in so it was back to the hotel.
Day 4 – Catch a plane home………………..phew! The weather was perfect! It could not have been a better trip and if you made it through this long dialog now you can enjoy the photos. I just love San Francisco and thanks to my mom for making it more special.
