Let’s create some pretty watercolor flowers, exploring the palette of soft blues and greens. In this tutorial, we’ll learn how to paint delicate blooms using simple watercolor techniques. Whether you’re a seasoned painter or just starting out, this step-by-step tutorial is designed to inspire and guide you through the process of creating stunning floral artwork.
Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape and misting down your watercolor palette with water. I am working “wet on wet” today, so use a paintbrush to cover your page with water. Then, add blobs of watercolor paint. I am using lots of greens and blues in my background. Dry with a heat tool.
Grab a Molotow Black pen and start doodling in your flowers and leaves. Listen to what your watercolors are telling you and fill in with flowers wherever you would like! Add some texture lines to your petals and centers with your pen.
Next, I’ll grab some dark blue watercolor paint and fill in all of the negative space in my background. Dry with a heat tool.
Then, I’ll use a liner brush and black acrylic paint to do some more outlining and texture lines around my flower petals and flower centers. I’ll also use a stencil brush to add gold paint to my flower centers. Dry with a heat tool.
I’ll use Pyrrole Red paint to add hearts around my art piece. Finally, I’ll use a liner brush and white acrylic paint to add a few more texture lines. Spray on a matte sealer, remove your painter’s tape, and enjoy your art!
