Let’s dive into the art of painting flowers using the captivating colors of a new watercolor palette called Prima Essence. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just beginning your creative journey, this tutorial is perfect for anyone looking to explore the beauty of nature through the medium of watercolors!
Prep your art journal project by taping off the edges with Painter’s Tape and misting your watercolor palette with water.
I will start by adding golden yellow and brown watercolor paint to my background to make my flower centers. Then, I’ll use dark blue, teal, and light green to paint my flower petals. Dry with a heat tool.
Next, I’ll paint the background area with lime green watercolor paint and dry it again with a heat tool.
I will use my Molotow Blackliner pens to outline and add detail lines to my flower centers and flower petals. This doesn’t need to be perfect! Lightly hold your pen and scribble your lines on, adding some darkening around the flower center.
Use a liner brush and white acrylic paint to add texture lines to your flower petals. You can also use a white Posca Pen if you would like, but I think the paint pops better.
I’ll also use a small stencil brush and black acrylic paint to add more color to my flower centers. I’ll use my pens again to sketch on some leaves. Then, I’ll take more of the lime green watercolor paint to fill in the negative space.
Finally, I’ll mix water with white acrylic paint, dip a fan brush into the mixture, and tap it above my page to create a splatter effect. I’ll also add a few hearts with red acrylic paint to my background. Dry with a heat tool.
Spray your art piece with a sealer, remove the painter’s tape, and enjoy!
