I received several requests to use fall colors, so I created this fall flowers art journal page using lots of orange, red, brown, green, and gold. One of the questions I get all of the time is: Where do I start? I don’t know what to paint! My answer is always just to see what the watercolors do. I go into my demo sessions with no plan in mind and just let the colors flow!
Prep your art piece by taping off the edges of your page with painter’s tape and misting your watercolor palette and page with water.
Then, add your color to your page. I’m using lots of yellow, orange, brown, red, and green and just letting the water blend the colors together. Dry with a heat tool.
Grab your Molotow Blackliner pen or permanent marker and start sketching on some flowers and leaves. Then, I’m using a really deep purple and painting in the background.
Take some black acrylic paint and a stencil brush and add some black to your flower centers. I’m also going to use Extreme Sheen 24k Gold acrylic paint and dab some of the flower centers too.
Then, I’ll take a liner brush with some black paint to outline my flowers and add in some more detail lines. You could also use a thicker pen or marker for this.
Water down some black paint, dip a fan brush in your mixture and tape it above your page to create a splatter effect. Remove your painter’s tape and enjoy!
