Looking for a creative way to show your patriotic spirit? This project is fun, simple, and perfect for beginners. I’ll walk you through creating a flag with red and white stripes, blue flowers in the corner, and paint splatters for stars. Grab your art supplies, and let’s make some patriotic art together!
Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with Painter’s Tape and adding a coat of Gesso: DecoArt (White).
I’m going to paint three red horizontal stripes on my page using Primary Red. Dry with a heat tool. Next, I’ll paint the white stripes with Buttermilk (an off-white color) and white paint. I want this to have a barn wood, rustic look to it, so I’ll blend in Quin Gold and black paint as well. Dry again.
In the top left square, I will paint on some circles with my white gesso. Then, I’ll paint on circular flowers with Vivid Blue. I’ll also mix in some white paint. Dry with a heat tool. I’ll use Leaf Green to paint on some leaves coming off of my flowers.
I’ll take my Black Stamp Pad: Dare 2b Artzy and a stencil brush to add some ink highlight to my stripes.
Finally, I’ll take a wet fan brush, dip it in white acrylic paint, and tap it above my page to create a splatter effect of “stars” on my blue flowers. I’ll do the same thing with a little bit of black paint on the rest of my art piece.
Dry with a heat tool, remove the painter’s tape, and enjoy!
