Dive into the soothing world of watercolors with our latest art journaling tutorial! We’ll explore the simplicity of creating a stunning scene featuring lavender flowers against a warm, tranquil sunset. Perfect for both beginners and seasoned artists, this art piece is a creative escape that takes less than 30 minutes of your time!
Prep your art journal by taping off the edges with painter’s tape. Mist down your watercolor palette with water.
I’m going to start by painting my background with yellow watercolor paint from left to right in the middle. Then, I’ll add some red and dark blue on the top and the bottom to create a sunset background. I’ll add yellow watercolor paint around my lid and place it on my page to create a sun. Then, I’ll fill that in with more yellow paint. Dry with a heat tool.
I will use a size 0 watercolor brush and some dark blue watercolor paint to create some lavender flowers. Make sure you are using a lot of water and just do it very relaxed. I’m even going to mist it down with even more water and just blend it into the background. Dry with a heat tool.
I’m going to use the same paintbrush with black watercolor paint to paint more lavender flowers – this time not watered down. I’ll also paint on some stems and grass.
Next, I’ll use a stencil brush and Ranger Archival Ink (Black) and add some color around the edge of my page.
I’ll finish it off with a black border and then spray it with DecoArt Sealer (Matte). Remove the painter’s tape and enjoy!
