Looking for a little sunshine in your art journal? In this tutorial, we’ll create a page inspired by the warm, bright colors of the sun using vibrant yellows, oranges, and reds. I’m also incorporating a Word Wood Heart that says “Inspire” for added dimension and a personal touch. Follow along as we layer paint, add texture, and create a glossy finish that will brighten up your art journal.

Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape and applying a coat of Gesso: DecoArt (White)

I have a Word Wood Heart that says “Inspire” that I will place towards the left side of my page – make a tick mark where you will place yours. This art journal page is inspired by the colors of the sun, so I’ll be using lots of DecoArt Media – yellows, oranges, and reds.

Next, I will use my paintbrush to pull the color from the center out toward the edges of my page, blending the colors as I go. Dry with a heat tool.

Apply a coat of Decoart Duraclear (High Gloss) to you art journal page.

Next, take your Wood Word Heart and apply a coat of white acrylic paint with a dry brush. I’ll also swipe on a little bit of magenta acrylic paint for color. Use an ink pad or Sharpie marker to add color to the edges. Dry with a heat tool.

Use Beacons Zip Dry to glue the wooden heart to your page. Add a layer of DecoArt Triple Thick to the heart to create a thick glossy finish. Remove the painter’s tape and let dry completely.
