Try Something with Tracy – DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Satin on Metal

I want to share some projects I made last year for videos with DecoArt and show you the range of DecoArt products. The first one is DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Satin. There is not enough I can say about this paint other then I LOVE IT! It goes on so many surfaces including glass, metal, canvas, wood, ceramic, most plastic, fabric, masonry wood, walls, terra cotta, paper and MORE! Ok, now that I got through that I can share that a couple of my projects were featured in the catalog to give you an idea……

I picked up these cute watering cans to paint on metal! Here are the few simple steps to personalize them:

Select your favorite DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Satin colors: My choices were Turquoise Waters, Purple Sunset, Pink Tropics, Chartreuse, Coastal Waters, Apple Green, and School Bus.
Apply Americana Reusable Stick-On Stencils (Dots)
Apply paint with DecoArt sponge applicator by pouncing lightly assuring good coverage
Carefully remove Reusable Stencil and wipe clean with a baby wipe to reuse.
Apply to other side of metal can and repeat
Paint handles and spout with DecoArt Americana Multi-Surface Satin

I repeated the same process and made a second one only I added painting some of my own designs for a more personal touch:

Tracy……I have seen the DecoArt Multi Surface Acrylics advertised and even looked for them at Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Each store had a few but the price was more than the regular DecoArt paint I use and I have dozens of bottles. It may be a wonderful product, but I can’t see buying it as the paint I now have is doing fine. I imagine a lot of people feel the same way. I simply cannot afford to buy new products for the sake of buying a new product. Perhaps DecoArt could have a special sale or offer coupons or something to get me to buy this new product. Also I did not find very many colors to entice me to buy the new product. The examples of painted subjects seem a little picturebook to me. I think with stencils and the style of painting my granddaughter, age 9,
could do them. Are we being coerced away from the SDP’s methods of painting??

I like your style of messages showing us new things. These are just thoughts of an old grandma who has loved to paint all her life….with more to come, I hope!!

Hi Ruthann, My goal is to share many projects, many paints and many surfaces so that someone may find something that speaks to them. My heart is with the Media Line however I love trying the range of DecoArt products. Art is a never-ending place of learning and growing. My motto is to “use what you have” but challenge yourself to create outside the box. My job with DecoArt has given me that gift to create, educate and share. I understand space and budgets but want to expand how you look at what you have. Or open you up to something you have not seen. I love the Decorative Painting world and they have embraced me with open arms for which I am grateful. I have learned from them as I hope they learn from me. Some time ago I decided to stay true to me and what speaks to me in art, and to all levels of it. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. I hope to share even more and maybe that creative light bulb goes off 🙂 ♥

Hi Tracy,

I’m looking into durable paints for glass, and am trying to decide between DecoArt’s products (Americana Glossy Enamels or Multi-Surface paint) and Plaid’s FolkArt Enamels. I can’t find much information that shows the durability of these paints. Do you have experience using these other paints? Any thoughts on durability… do they scrape off with a fingernail, scratch easily, etc.?

Hi Mia, I have experience with the DecoArt products only and cannot speak of Plaid. I have had great luck with both products and especially like the Gloss Enamels as it is made for glass. It does need to cure in an oven and they say you can dishwasher it but I do not believe in trusting my hand painted items to a dishwasher. I love them

  Thank you, Tracy. I hope that these paints are durable enough for frequent handling, but I guess I won’t know until I try them. 🙂
