We are working with lots of different mixed media today to create an original piece of art in our art journals! We are using some pages from a book, several different acrylic paint colors, and stencils to create this art piece. Get creative and use this as inspiration in your own art journal!
Start off by taping the edges of your page with painter’s tape. Add a coat of white gesso to your page to prep your surface. Then, I am going to add some pages of a book to my background – just rip out a few pages of whatever you have that you can use in different organic shapes. Add a coat of Matte Medium to your page and then add the book pieces on top and another coat of Matte over top. Next, I’m adding a layer of Titan Buff on top, which is a cream-colored acrylic paint.
I’m going to add some Cobalt Teal Hue paint around the edges of my page and some in the middle as well.
Then, I’m going to paint a few hearts on my page with my white gesso.
I’m going to paint my hearts with Primary Magenta, Poetic Plum, and Cobalt Teal Hue. Add two coats of paint to your flowers and dry with a heat tool. Take a liner brush and some black acrylic paint and outline your hearts with black. Then, paint your vines and leaves coming from the top of each heart. Paint the leaves with Irish Moss.
I’m using a chip brush to add some Prussian Blue Hue around the outer edge of my page as well as a little to my background. I’m also going to add some Stabilo Aqurellable Black pencil around my hearts and leaves for some blended shadowing.
My hearts need some texture, so I’m going to use some patterned stencils on them. I”m going to place the stencil on my hearts and use a stencil brush on my Ranger Archival (Black) ink pad to add that pattern.
Finally, I’ll take a liner brush with some white acrylic paint and add some detail lines to my heart. Dry with a heat tool.
