If you’re in the mood to play with color and let your creativity flow, this floral art journal project is the perfect place to start. We’ll be using the Vintage Pastels watercolor set to give the flowers a soft, muted, vintage vibe. With gentle colors, bold outlines, and playful splatter, this one is all about layering texture and having fun with your supplies.

Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape to give it a clean border. Lightly mist your watercolor palette with water to get the colors ready.

Start by adding pastel yellow to the page to create the centers of your flowers. Then use other colors like purple, red, and green to paint the petals. Add a little black watercolor to the center of the purple and red flowers to give them some depth.

Finish by filling in the background with a light blue color. Once everything looks good, dry the page with a heat tool.

Use a Sharpie pen to outline your flower petals and centers, adding some loose doodles and texture lines as you go. Try filling in parts of the flower centers with simple shapes like circles and lines to give them more interest.

Next, I’ll darken the background a bit by adding a light wash of gray watercolor. For extra texture, I’ll load a fan brush with black watercolor paint and tap it against another brush to create a splatter effect across the page.

To add more depth and shading, use an Aquarellable Pencil to darken some of the flower centers – it gives a nice contrast and pulls everything together.
