Create a winter-inspired art journal page with me! In this tutorial, we’ll layer rich colors, add textured trees, and finish with a sparkling metallic snow effect. Perfect for all skill levels, this project is a fun way to explore new techniques and bring a touch of the winter season to your art.

Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape. Next, apply a coat of White Gesso to prime the page.

Next, I’ll start adding Paynes Grey and Titanium White to my background in vertical up-and-down strokes. Blend the colors with a stencil brush in a circular motion, then use the same brush to dab Cobalt Teal Hue into the background for a pop of color.

Next, let’s add some trees to the background. Using a fan brush and a mixture of Titanium White and Payne’s Grey, gently dab and pounce the paint to create soft, subtle tree shapes. These will form the distant trees. For the foreground, switch to a liner brush and use Payne’s Grey to paint more defined trees. Add as many trees as you like to fill the space and bring your scene to life.

Use a wet fan brush, dip it in Extreme Sheen Sterling Silver, and tap it against another brush above your page to create a metallic snow effect. I’ll do the same thing with a little bit of Paynes Grey and Titanium White. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, I’ll use a stencil brush with Prussian Blue Hue and swirl it around the edges of my page to create a darker border. Dry again. Finally, I’ll apply a coat of Duraclear (Satin) sealer and dry it again. I’ll splatter some more Extreme Sheen Sterling Silver on top and remove the painter’s tape.
