Let’s create a fun mixed-media art journal page that goes beyond the ordinary! Join me as I guide you through the process of painting a flower, bringing elements to life in a way that makes them pop right off the page. I’m also sharing some new DecoArt paint products that I used to create this!

Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape. Then, apply a coat of DecoArt White Chalky Gesso to your page.

I’m going to add different paint colors to my background, like Baby Duck (Yellow), Cherry Merlot (Purple), and white. Dry with a heat tool.

Take another piece of paper and cut out flower petal shapes. Next, I’m going to add White Gesso and then add brush strokes of Mystic Teal (Green) and Salted Caramel (Golden Yellow) to each flower petal. Dry with a heat tool.

I’m going to take Ranger Archival Ink (Mermaid Lagoon) and run the pad along the edges of each flower petal. I’ll arrange my flower petals on my art journal page. I need a flower center, so I’ll rip a circle out of my scrap paper, scrunch it up for texture, and paint it with the Baby Duck (Yellow). I’ll also add some of the Salted Caramel around the edge and middle with my finger.

I’m going to use a stencil brush to add Ranger Archival Ink (Dusty Concord) around the edges of my background. Then, I’ll glue my flower petals and center down with Beacon Zip Dry

I’m going to take a liner brush and black acrylic paint to add a stem. I’ll use the end of my paintbrush to add black dots along each flower petal. Dry with a heat tool.

Finally, I’ll add a little bit of texture to my background. I’ll use my paint lid dipped in some white paint as a stamp to add circles to my background. I’ll also mix my white paint with water, dip a fan brush in the mixture, and tap it above my page to create a splatter effect. Take an old gift card or hotel key card and dip it in your white paint to create lines in your background.

Finally, I’ll glue a yellow button to my flower center. Dry with a heat tool and remove the painter’s tape.
