I’m sharing another quick art journal page that I painted in someone’s art journal – this one with bright, colorful blossoms and a touch of gold. Did you know that when you order an art journal, there is an option to have the first page painted by me? These have been so much fun to create, and this is a special page just for Cassie. I’ll show you step-by-step how I created this!
Prep your art journal by taping off the edges with painter’s tape. Then, mist down your watercolor palette with water.
We are going to work wet on wet, so start by adding some blotches of water to your paper. Then, add color in the shape of a flower with yellow in the center and some purples and oranges around the petals. I’m loving gold paint right now, so I’m going to add dabs of Extreme Sheen (24k Gold) to my flower centers and black watercolor paint. Dry with a heat tool.
Add water to your background and then add light green and dark green watercolor paint.
Next, take a liner brush and black acrylic paint and add your detail lines. I’m outlining each flower petal, adding texture lines to my flower petals, and painting some leaves in the background. I’ll also use a stencil brush and dab some black paint around each flower center.
I want my leaves to stand out more, so I’ll use darker green paint and fill in the background even more.
I’d like a splatter effect on my flower petals. I’m going to mix water with my black acrylic paint, dip a fan brush into the mixture, and tap it above my page. I’ll use a Ranger (Black) ink pad and a stencil brush to add some more color and texture around my flower centers. Finally, I’ll spray my piece with DecoArt Acrylic Aerosol Gloss Sealer. Dry with a heat tool and remove your painter’s tape.
