Discover the joy of mixed media and acrylic painting with my latest tutorial! Dive into the world of art journaling as we explore techniques to paint three delightful daisy flowers. Perfect for beginners, this step-by-step guide will teach you how to create a stunning background, paint your flowers, and use other art journaling techniques.
Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with Painter’s Tape. Then, add a coat of DecoArt White Gesso to your surface.
Let’s paint our background! I am using Grey Storm, Titanium White, and Peacock Teal, blending the colors vertically. Then, I’ll dip a fan brush in the Grey Storm and Paynes Grey and tap it above my page to create a splatter effect on the background. Dry with a heat tool.
Next, I’ll take a stencil brush and go around the edges of my page with white acrylic paint, Diarylide Yellow, and Paynes Gray.
I’ll take my white gesso to paint on three daisy flowers. I’ll paint the petals with white paint and a little bit of gray paint. Then, I’ll use a small stencil brush to pounce on Diarylide Yellow paint on each flower center. Use a heat tool to dry your flowers, concentrating on the centers to give them some texture with your heat.
Use a liner brush and black acrylic paint to add detail lines and outline your flower petals. You can use a pen or Sharpie here, but I’ll be using paint. Then, paint on your stems and leaves along with some scribbles.
Take a small stencil brush and add black acrylic paint, Quin Gold, and DecoArt Extreme Sheen 24K Gold around each flower center for texture.
Dry with a heat tool, concentrating on the flower centers again to bubble it up. Use a stencil brush and a Ranger Archival Ink (Black) pad to add color around the edges of your page.
Seal your piece with Durclear (Satin), remove your painter’s tape, and use a ruler and Sharpie marker to add a black border around the edges.
