If you’re looking for a playful, low-pressure watercolor project that lets you loosen up, try new techniques, and just enjoy the process, this Daydream Daisy might be exactly what you need. This dreamy daisy-inspired bloom uses relaxed brushwork, a splash of white, and a mix of watercolors and acrylics to create a whimsical flower that practically glows off the page.

Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape. Mist your watercolor palette with water to activate the colors.
Using a clean brush and water, lightly wet the center where your daisy flower center will be. Don’t worry about perfect circles – we’re embracing the messy magic here.
Now grab a sunny yellow watercolor and drop it into the wet center. Let it swirl and bloom naturally. Add hints of orange and even a touch of brown if you like – this helps add dimension. The yellow will spread a bit, and that’s okay.

Load up a size 6 round brush with white watercolor (or gouache if you prefer a more opaque look), and begin sweeping out long daisy petals from the center.
Mix in tiny bits of blue or gray with your white to add shadow and depth. If the yellow center starts to sneak into your petals, don’t stress – it creates a soft blend that feels like sunlight. Just rinse and reload as needed. Dry with a heat tool.

Once your petals are dry, switch to acrylics. Using a stencil brush, dab into Payne’s Gray, Quin Gold, and a little black.
Pounce the color into the center, starting lightly and building depth. The effect is warm, rustic, and helps the flower pop beautifully off the page.
Finally, dip a fan brush in the Payne’s Gray and lightly tap it against another brush above your page to create a splatter effect on the flower center. Dry with a heat tool, remove the painter’s tape, and enjoy.

When you were painting the center of the flower you listed quin gold and paynes gray. Was there a color used that gave it somewhat of a reddish color also? This was my second video trying to paint along with you so I sometimes have “wandering” sights. My first attempt was the lemons/limes. It wasn’t a horrible result. Thanks for offering these youtube videos.
Quin gold is that rust color: https://shop.tracyweinzapfelstudios.com/products/decoart-media-fluid-acrylics-quinacridone-gold-series-5?_pos=1&_sid=3997b030f&_ss=r and Paynes grey is another great color to use:https://shop.tracyweinzapfelstudios.com/products/decoart-media-fluid-acrylics-payne-s-grey-series-1?_pos=1&_psq=paynes+gr&_ss=e&_v=1.0
Please go easy on yourself and enjoy the learning process! Keep going and painting with me 🙂
