This week, I created a mixed-media art journal page inspired by my new Detroit Lions shirt. I also used the Lions colors: Honolulu Blue, Silver, Black, and White. This is just another reminder to find inspiration all around you, including your favorite sports teams and clothing! I’m sharing step-by-step how I painted this – substitute with your team’s colors!
Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape, and misting your watercolor palette with water. I’m going to start by adding lots of different blues to my page using the Prima Currents palette. This palette has the best blues! Dry with a heat tool.
Next, I’m going to use drywall tape as a stencil. Place drywall tape onto your page and use a stencil brush with Ranger Archival Black to add some textured dots to your background.
I’m going to use a Let’s Resin Chrome Marker to doodle on my flowers and leaves. I’ll also add some textured lines to my flower petals. I’ll fill in the negative background space with black watercolor paint.
I’ll take my chrome marker and hit it against a paintbrush right above my page to create some silvery metallic splatters on my flowers. Dry with a heat tool.
Finally, I’m going to paint some hearts on my art piece with DecoArt Media Pyrrole Red. Dry with a heat tool and remove your painter’s tape.
