Let’s make this playful little postcard featuring the Journal Essentials stamp set! This set is full of handy lines, banners, and accents that are perfect for journaling, cardmaking, or small-scale art pieces. Today, I’ll show you how I used it to create a simple thank-you postcard that’s as fun as it is easy.
Tape off the card with painter’s tape to ensure a clean border. Mount the banner stamp on your acrylic block, ink it up with archival ink, and stamp it across the center of your paper. Don’t worry if it’s not perfectly straight – handmade charm is part of the fun!
Tip: Always stamp on scrap paper first when using a new stamp. This helps the ink stick better to the surface.
Now grab your favorite pen and begin sketching flowers, doodles, or whatever designs you like around the banner. Keep it loose! The goal isn’t perfection – it’s playful, relaxed lines.
Switch between thinner and thicker pens as you go. Using different line weights adds depth and makes your doodles pop. Don’t grip your pen too tightly. Keep your hand relaxed and let the pen do the work for you. Over-gripping can cause hand cramps and even wear down your pen tips faster.
Once your doodles are in place, go back over some of the lines with thicker pens. This layering creates contrast and dimension. Don’t be afraid to go over the same line more than once. If you like, fill in some negative spaces with black ink to balance the design.
Here’s my favorite part – I almost always tuck in a few tiny red hearts somewhere on my page. Today I used Pyrrole Red to add three little hearts. This small splash of color makes the piece feel complete. I also filled in the flower centers with yellow acrylic paint.
In the banner, write a simple message like “Thank You” – or leave it blank for someone else to personalize.
Remove the painter’s tape and just like that, you’ve got a sweet little hand-stamped postcard – perfect to tuck into an order, send as happy mail, or keep in your journal. Cute, quick, and totally handmade.
