This week, we are switching things up a little bit and I am going to draw first and paint second. Let’s create in our art journals with a Molotow Blackliner pen, watercolor paint, and acrylic paint to make a pretty field of flowers. I hope this encourages you to do something creative and try a new skill!

Prep your materials by taping off the edges of your page with painter’s tape and misting your watercolor palette with water.

Then, draw some flowers! Make sure you are using some kind of fine-tip pen and just scribble. This does not have to be perfect at all. Doodle on different types of flowers and enjoy the process. You can also sketch a few stems on your flowers as well.

I just feel like splashing color on this now! I’m adding watercolor paint to my page – some yellow to my flower centers and lots of pinks and oranges to the petals. Use whatever colors you would like and paint loose. No need to stay in the lines for these. I’ll also add some green paint to the bottom of my page for grass.

Next, take your water mister and spray your flowers to let the colors bleed and blend. Then, I’ll take my fan brush in some paint and tap it above my page for a little bit of splatter. Dry with a heat tool.

Take your pen and outline your flowers again. Feel free to add some texture to your flower centers and petals with detail lines and dots.

Next, I am going to take some acrylic paint in Phithalo Green Yellow and Green Gold to add some blades of grass. Take an old gift card or credit card, dip it in your paint, and swipe it along the green area of the page to create some grass. Dry with a heat tool.

I’ll take some Carbon Black paint and a liner brush and add some more outlines around my flowers and petals. I’ll also add some black splatters with my fan brush too. I’ll take a little bit of white acrylic paint with my liner brush and add some more detail lines. Dry with a heat tool.
