I saw this saying the other day….
I am an Artist…..I feel my calling. A lot of people ask me how I do so much in a day and my response is I am always On. My mind is always creating. From the second my feet touch the ground (sometimes even before it my mind is going). I optimize the time I have. I walk to unload and refresh the soul (sometimes need it to slow the brain). One thing I am known for is my ability to sleep any time and any where. When I sit down and am not actively doing something I can instantaneously fall asleep. When my head hits the pillow I am out. When I am a passenger in a car, I am known for sleeping straight up.
I read this awesome article from Psychology Today HERE and the 10 traits present in creative people:
- have a great deal of physical energy, but they’re also often quiet and at rest.
- tend to be smart yet naive at the same time.
- combine playfulness and discipline, or responsibility and irresponsibility.
- alternate between imagination and fantasy, and a rooted sense of reality
- tend to be both extroverted and introverted.
- are humble and proud at the same time.
- to an extent, escape rigid gender role stereotyping.
- are both rebellious and conservative – willingness to take risks, to break with the safety of tradition is necessary.
- are very passionate about their work, they they can be extremely objective about it as well.
- Their openness and sensitivity often expose them to suffering and pain, yet also to a great deal of enjoyment.
I find myself in each of those ten items. I am a passionate person. Many Artists are. Embracing who I am and what makes me tick has become a valuable part of my 40’s. I have learned to embrace when/where and who I am, my quirks, my spirit and I try not to quiet down my creativity……..if anything I am screaming it from the rooftops. Now my artistic expression is not suppressed but released. I no longer care what everyone else is doing or comparing myself with someone else’s career path and only want to make the best of mine. My life is about making most of the moments I am given, creating new ones and not sitting down being a spectator to things passing by but participating. New opportunities, sunsets, sunrises (OK, not much of a morning person), new walks to take, etc. are all part of it. Sharing this and hoping others find their calling is my passion.
This is who I am today………Tracy Weinzapfel, the Artist, Creative being, Painter, Mom, and so much more………
There is a point… The point is you’re helping yourself and others. The point is you’re doing something positive. The point is you’re taking action and trying. The point is you’re not living in premature self-defeat. You are taking your own ideas from concept to actualization. You’re bringing value to the world. Even if no one sees it, you can have the satisfaction of knowing you did the best you could.”
Very interesting post and I find myself in the list too.
thank you
I just LOVE your positive attitude towards life!! I envy that in you! You are so motivating to me and I find that I look forward to your blog posts on a daily basis. I am striving to be a better person every day because of you. Thank you for all you do! You are an amazing person and artist Tracy! Hugs!!!!
Lisa……………..it has been a 44 year process. Trust me on that one! So glad my words are out there….even if just one person reads them. You just did ♥
Thank you for all you share. It gives a lot of us courage to try to be who we think we are suppose o be.
I gave up that super woman complex and once I let that go…my perfect imperfections just seemed easier 🙂 ♥
Thanks for sharing! A great list and I found myself in each of them also.
Such a beautiful post, Tracy. I can identify with so many of those traits to. If you are lucky enough to have someone support what you do, that is where the true blessing lies if not, sometimes being a creative type is a curse:(
I AGREE WITH YOU 100% and know that curse all to well. Now I choose to have those in my life that support me and who I am including artist, mom, etc. ♥
Oh, Tracy, so many of those apply to me and I often wonder what my purpose is, here on Earth. I know that I have a purpose and want to contribute in a positive way. How many folks resonate with that?! The daily grind is not what it is all about. Creating happiness for others, now that sounds good to me. If only one person likes what I have created, maybe a card or a canvas, then I am happy but I am happy just knowing I tried. Art is so rewarding on so many levels. It truly keeps me sane. Thanks for all the inspiration you bring and for opening our eyes to see beyond the substrate. I will sleep good tonight. Hugs!! Laura Jo
thank you so much for sharing you and your art Laura!!! It is a gift ♥
Beautifully written post, Tracy……I also find myself in the list…I am so glad I “found” you online…that I can connect with you…. Maybe one day we will meet… <3
I would love that Debbie!!!!
Love that you’ve given us pause to acknowledge the incredible value in pursuing our calling; that which speaks to our heart. And you are RIGHT, I am so done with comparing my life path to someone else’s.
If I could share here for a sec, I retired at 54, after 30+ years of the corporate world. It no longer served me. I spent the next 4.5 years discovering what I really love. For a year I had a jewelry biz (local shops, Etsy, craft fairs) and had a blast! It was a success but I missed my paintbrushes! I got back into art journaling, walked a couple hundred miles, deepened my spiritual practice & started a women’s circle. All really good stuff, but there was something more. I KNEW I had to return to heart-centered work and took a position in Feb as a P/T companion/caregiver for seniors. My next goal is to teach how art (journaling) heals.. preferably with at-risk youth or a battered women’s shelter. Or both!
At 59.. life just keeps getting better! ~ xo
