Let’s go big today with a large flower with the prettiest colorful background! I’ll be showing you how to draw and paint your flower as well as add all of the details. We’re mostly working with watercolor today, but we’ll also add in some stamps and ink for some mixed media fun.

Start by taping off the edges of your art journal page with painter’s tape. Then, take a  Stabilo Aqurellable Black pencil and very, very lightly create dots for your flower center and add some petals.

Wet down your paper with a paintbrush and water. We are working wet on wet! I am just focusing on the background for now. I’m going to add some blue, yellow, and purple, You can simply just add spots of color and the water will blend the paint. Dry with a heat tool.

Add water to your flower center and then add some yellows and oranges. Then, I’ll add some pinks and purples to my flower petals. Dry with a heat tool.

I’m going to take a Molotow Blackliner pen and add some detail lines! I will outline my flower petals and add some dots and lines around my flower center. Next, I’ll take a pattern stamp and my black ink pad and stamp on my flower center. I’ll also take my Stabilo Aqurellable Black and add some shading around the center too.

I’ll take my fan brush and black acrylic paint and add some paint splatters to my flower. Mix your black paint with water, dip your brush in, and tap it above your page to create those splatters. Finally, I’ll use my Ranger Black Archival Mermaid Lagoon ink pad and a stencil brush and add some color around my paper edges. Remove your painter’s tape and you’re done!
