We are playing with stamps and paint to create a fun mixed-media art piece! I’ll be using my own stamp set as well as a beautiful selection of acrylic paint to create hearts, circles, and a colorful background in my art journal. This one is simple, fast, easy, and fun!
Tape off the edges of your art journal page with some painter’s tape. We are going to start with a coat of white gesso on the page.
Then, I’m going to grab some Saffron Yellow, Irish Moss, and Peacock Teal acrylic paint and just make some streaks in one direction for the background. Then, I’ll add some strokes in another direction to give it some texture. Let dry or dry with a heat gun.
Next, I’m going to draw some circles with a pencil. Grab whatever circular objects you might have lying around to get the perfect circle – I’m using my painter’s tape roll and a paint bottle. Then, I’ll draw a few hearts as well. I’ll paint some white Gesso just on the hearts. Then, I’ll paint the circles with teal, green and light blue.
Next, I’ll paint the hearts with pink and purple. Then, I’ll add one more lighter pink heart.
I’ll take a black Sharpie marker and just outline those circles and hearts. Then, I’ll take my Stabilo Aquarellable Black pencil for outlining and shading, which I can blend with my fingers. I’ll also use a stencil brush and my black stamp pad and go around the edges of those shapes. Then, I’ll add Prussian Blue Hue paint to my page edge too.
I’m going to use one of my stamps that says “Do something creative every day” and add that to one of my circles. I’ll also grab a liner brush and some white paint and add some details around my shapes. I’ll finish it off by spraying it with DecoArt Sealer: DecoArt Matte (I’ll spray that outside!)
This was so fun to make! Remember: it doesn’t have to be perfect – just do something creative every day.
