I’m showing you how to create a fun and simple mixed-media piece in your art journal. This is a great exercise to do to get your creative juices flowing and decompress. We will be painting some easy hearts and adding some pops of gold to bring it all together.

Prep your art piece by taping off the edges of your paper with painter’s tape. Then, we will add a coat of white gesso

Today, we are working with acrylic paints. I’m going to start by adding some Magenta, Purple, White, and Cobalt Teal Hue to my background, adding strokes in an up and down motion and some horizontal strokes too. Dry with a heat tool.

Next, I am going to paint some hearts with my white gesso. Then, I’m going to add some Bright Blue, Prussian Blue Hue, and Cobalt Teal Hue on top.

Then, I’m going to outline my hearts with black acrylic paint and add some lines coming off of them.

Let’s splatter some gold paint! I’m going to take some DecoArt Extreme Sheen 24Gold and mix it with a little bit of water. Then, I’ll dip a fan brush into it and tap it above my paper to create a splatter effect. I’ll also add some gold paint to one side of the hearts with my fan brush, and then again with a liner brush. Dry with a heat tool.

I’ll take some Ranger Archival Black ink and a stencil brush and apply it around the edges of my paper. Finally, I’ll apply a coat of DuraClear High Gloss to seal my art piece. Dry with a heat tool and remove your painter’s tape.
