Let’s create two different winter and holiday-themed art journal pages! I’m going to start by creating some holiday trees using watercolor paint and then paint a mixed-media poinsettia flower. Both of these are simple and easy to create – and are perfect for this time of the year!

Watercolor & Mixed Media Holiday Trees

Start by prepping your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape. Wet your entire background with water using your paintbrush. Add some dark blue watercolor paint and then add dots of purple. Then, I’ll use some Extreme Sheen (24k Gold) acrylic paint and add little crisscross stars in the background. Dry with a heat tool.

Grab Titanium White acrylic paint and a fan brush to create your trees. You’ll just use the fan brush to pounce the paint onto your page in the shape of a tree. Then, I’ll use a stencil brush and the same white paint to create snow on the bottom of my page. Finally, I’ll use some Ranger (Faded Jeans) ink pad and a stencil brush to add color around the edges of my page. Dry with a heat tool and remove your painter’s tape.

Watercolor and Mixed Media Poinsettia Flower

Start by prepping your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape. Then, add some golden yellow for your flower center and paint red flower petals. I’ll also add some Extreme Sheen (24k Gold) to the flower center. Dry with a heat tool.

Wet your entire background with water and then add different shades of green, letting the water blend your paint. Dry with a heat tool.

I’m going to use a liner brush and Carbon Black acrylic paint to add detail lines and outline my flower petals. I’ll also add some detail lines with the gold paint. Next, I’ll use a small stencil brush and pounce black paint around the flower center.

Then, I’ll paint two leaves and fill them in with green watercolor paint. Take your liner brush with black paint and add detail lines to your leaves. Dry with a heat tool.

I’ll grab an ink pad in Peeled Paint and use a stencil brush to add some color around the edges of my page.

Finally, mix water and gold paint along with water and black paint and use a fan brush to add a splatter effect to the flower center. Dip your fan brush in each mixture and tap it above your page. Dry with a heat tool and remove the painter’s tape.
