If you’ve ever sat down to paint with nothing but your feelings and a favorite color palette, you’ll understand this piece perfectly. Radiant Heart is an explosion of color, mood, and texture – a bright pink heart glowing against a deep background with just the right amount of sparkle and splatter.
Prep your art journal page by taping off the edges with painter’s tape and misting your watercolor palette with water to activate the colors.
Next, begin by wetting your watercolor page and dropping in your boldest pink in the heart-shaped center. No pencil outline needed – just paint freely in the general shape of a heart.
Surround the pink with deep purples, midnight blue, and hints of teal or green. Let the colors bleed into each other naturally. If needed, lift or blend with a clean brush to soften edges or redirect color flow. Dry with a heat tool.
While everything is dry, grab some black acrylic paint or a black Sharpie. I’ll use my Sharpie to add dots all along my heart outline. Then, I’ll use a stencil brush with black acrylic paint to add shading by pouncing it around the heart. I’ll also pounce some watercolor paint as well as Extreme Sheen Gold paint around my heart.
Next, grab a fan brush and lightly tap the brush to splatter small specks of the gold and black paint across the heart and its edges.
Finally, I’ll use a stencil brush to apply Ranger Archival Ink (Black) around the edges of the art piece. Remove the painter’s tape and enjoy!
